FBI Arrests Poplarville Man In Nicholls Threats

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA (FBI) – DYRON HART, age 19, was arrested yesterday having been charged by criminal complaint with sending threatening emails, announced FBI Special Agent in Charge David W. Welker and US Attorney Jim Letten. According to the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint, HART, of Poplarville, Mississippi, sent the threatening messages to three Nicholls State University students.

SAC David Welker warned: “The FBI, with our law enforcement partners, will continue to vigorously investigate and arrest those individuals who commit these crimes as we will not tolerate these violations of federal law. These investigations place a strain on law enforcement and violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten stated: “Yesterday’s arrest by the FBI and our federal response should serve as a powerful signal to all we serve that vile and threatening communications will not be tolerated and will be met with swift response.”

HART faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release.

HART was booked in the Stone County Jail in Mississippi and will have his initial appearance today.

The case was investigated by the FBI, LSP, Nicholls State University Police Department, and Poplarville Mississippi Police Department and prosecuted by the Assistant United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana.
