Students Back in Class After Morning Gas Leak

Chackbay - The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office reports that students of Chackbay Elementary were evacuated this morning as a precaution because of a gas leak near the school.

Sgt. Leslie Peters now reports that all children are now back in class at Chackbay Elementary following the gas leak. Parents will be allowed to check their children out of school if they deem it necessary. Otherwise, classes are back to normal.  The gas leak occurred when a driver backing out of her driveway, backed into a main gas line at 130 School Lane. The driver was not injured and ATMOS Gas company crews were able to plug and cap the leak. There are no ongoing problems anticipated.
